    About these signals

Six things we can work out from the numbers on file for the last 90 days, each set against a published reference range. A band is a comparison, not a grade: there is no score here, no fake-follower percentage. Audience demographics, when supplied, are shown separately. How the ranges were chosen.

What does it take to build the Nigeria we want?

I was invited to join the @worldbankgroup forum for a conversation on Advancing Nigeria’s Early Years Agenda: Strengthening Human Capital through the Creative Economy, Innovative Technologies, and Evidence.

I left with a page of notes, but more importantly, a renewed conviction about where we need to focus.

If we are going to develop the Nigeria of tomorrow, we MUST develop what our children can imagine, make, solve and create. Human capital begins with imagination. But how does a child imagine or picture a future they have never seen?

We hear the word infrastructure and immediately imagine multi-billion dollar projects, national programmes, decades of planning. But in reality, infrastructure can be something far more modest. A creative studio can be as important to a young person as a classroom, and a maker space as important as a computer lab.

Somebody took a risk on me when MADHouse existed only as an idea. I did not know then what it would become. I only knew to keep building and I think that person can look now at what their risk made possible.

Our objective cannot only be to create creative people. It has to be to create creative producers, then creative entrepreneurs, and finally creative employers. Know more, do more, earn more, employ more.

For me, I could not keep waiting for the government, so I had to become the government myself, because talent was going to waste while we waited. Infrastructure does not start with a budget line. It starts in the room you are sitting in, with whoever in it is willing to take the risk and do the work.

Nobody is going to support us if we do not support one another.

There is a point where doing MORE for yourself is no longer enough. How many others can BECOME because of what I build?

I have spent a good part of my life creating, teaching, documenting and now building. And the more I do, the more convinced I become that Nigerian talent deserves more.

I don’t have the full picture yet, but I know I want to leave behind more than photographs. I want to leave behind places, opportunities and possibilities for the people coming after us.

I will keep doing more.

Having an idea is the easy part.

The difficult part is everything that comes after. How do you finance it? Who do you need on the team? What happens when the original plan doesn’t work? How do you keep building when the problems keep changing?

Well, I might not have all the answers but the plan is to stay long enough to get them.

Maybe, the privilege of going first is not being the person who gets everything right from the beginning. But I can at least be the person who makes it easier for everyone coming after me to get it right.

I have said this many times, but if we must truly see the kind of results we keep talking about in the creative industry, then we have to go beyond skill acquisition, trainings and workshops.

On Saturday, 29th of August, we are bringing creatives together for a conversation about what happens after you have learnt the skill. How do you sell more? How do you build? How do you grow your business into a sustainable source of income?

We will be joined by amazing facilitators including Nene Ibeku of @wearsisinene , Temilade Salami @theglobaltemi , and more.

If you have not registered, the flyer is on my page. Copy out the link or scan the QR code to register.

It is completely FREE.

Save the date. This is a conversation you do not want to miss.
